Perlite is a lightweight hard aerated white mineral formed from volcanic glass. By combining it with compost soil and other components you can create a specialty blend suitable for plants that thrive in well-aerated and well-drained conditions such as cacti succulents and orchids. The angular properties of coarse perlite make it particularly effective for producing free-draining potting mixes.

In seed raising mixtures perlite promotes faster germination and better seedling growth. Seedlings can be easily removed from perlite with minimal root damage allowing for easy transplantation with little disturbance.
