Description
In 1940 the Royal Navy is urgently recruiting for WWII and brings Lieutenant Commander Fraser out of retirement to command a recently re-commissioned ship lent by the Americans to the under-resourced British Navy. Despite a challenging beginning and numerous repairs Fraser transforms the ship and its crew into an effective fighting unit.
The story culminates in a bold mission to destroy a French dockyard that is vital for the Nazis in maintaining their powerful battleships. The climax of the film is a fictional portrayal of the real-life St Nazaire Raid of 1942 also known as Operation Chariot which was led by a ship very similar to the one featured in the film and is celebrated as one of the greatest raids in history.
